BlindStraddle.com
Monday, 02 June 2008

Well, I've joined the evil empire.  I am now a publisher/editor.  Chris Wallace and I have started a brand new online poker magazine called Blind Straddle .  It premiered yesterday, June 1st.  And I'm offering a free month to the first 10 people who use the code ADAMSENTME when they sign up.   We've got articles by Lou Krieger and Bob Ciaffone for those of you familiar with brick-and-mortar players, and articles by Chris and Jennifear for those more familiar with online pros.  We've got some new writers in it as well, along with some lesser known pros who have written for websites like pocketfives and 2+2. I've got a poker short story in it that first appeared in Full House, edited by Pete Hautman, and also a poker-themed crossword that I created.

It was a ton of work putting it all together, buying stories, desiging the site, and of course, making Internet Explorer behave like the other browsers.  But all in all, I'm real happy with what we've accomplished and am already looking forward to putting together next month's issue.

Not a bad day...
Sunday, 13 April 2008
Obviously site update not complete yet, but just wanted to post a quick note on a nice little day of poker.  6th in the Gold Ironman freeroll on Full Tilt for $600, half-hour of 8-16 stud hi-lo for @$150, hour of .5-1 PL O8 for $76, and $450 of rakeback paid from last month's play.  Not too shabby for only playing an hour and a half of poker I actually had to pay for.

A long overdue update...

For those who haven't noticed, I'm a lousy blogger.  Turns out I'm a better liar than reporter.  i.e. I can write fiction, but can't journal.  I've tried to keep regular updates, I really have, but the blogging life, alas, is not to be.  Therefore, I'm going to do a complete overhaul of the website, make it less blog-centric.  I'll still have a blog (I'll point it to my LiveJournal site) but it will no longer be the central element.  I've become fairly proficient with HTML and CSS from working on PokerFox.net, so I'm going to ditch the content management software, and build something a little more visually interesting, and hopefully more fun to explore.  I've also just been accepted to MCTC, and am going to take some web development courses, so instead of forcing myself to make blog entries, I can expirement with my own site.  I don't have a time frame, but expect to show up some day to something completely different.

Caucus
Wednesday, 06 February 2008
Got my first taste of local politics last night caucusing for Al Franken at our precinct caucus.  It all came about from Betsy telling me that I couldn't just complain anymore; I was going to have to do something.  She grew up in politics and advised that I pick a single thing to work on, something I felt I could actually have an effect on.  I decided that I would try to get Norm Coleman out of congress.  And I think Al Franken has the best chance of defeating him in November.  He's polling ahead of Coleman right now, and if he gets to debate the slimy bastard, I think the lead will get much bigger.

Anyway, I'd describe the caucus experience as messy, slow, exciting overall while stupefyingly boring at times, and fascinatingly archaic.  There were a lot of first time caucus attendees, myself included.  Of course, I tried to listen and learn and not slow the process by leaping to my feet and insisting that the process be changed to better represent the room's political makeup as one woman did.  Not that I fault her passion, but if she was truly concerned that her candidate was underrepresented then the only thing to do is volunteer to be a delegate.  Like I did.

So I'll be going to the county caucus next month and helping to pick delegates for the state convention.  I think I'm glad I don't really know what I'm getting myself into.
