After receiving a request from one of PokerFox.net's members to write a 7 Stud Hi-Lo article, I thought I should go back and play a bunch to reacquaint myself with the game. I hadn't played much stud recently, because the games were few and far between. But there's been pretty steady action on Full Tilt from $2-$4 up to $8-$16, so I jumped right in. I'd forgotten how much I like this game. It was the first game I really studied and became proficient in, and I'm still much better at it than holdem. Additionally, the competition is much weaker than holdem. There's far less literature out there on it, and things are so fluid that it's tougher to come up with a static strategy for it. Bots can beat limit holdem; they'd have a hard time with stud hi-lo. Anyway, really enjoying it, and am making money as well. Going to have to write that article soon... | | No comments for this item |

Just got back from a SCBWI conference in Des Moines. As always, I was impressed with a conference run in Des Moines. Maybe it's a good literature department at Iowa U. combined with a midwestern work ethic, but the conferences in that town that I've been to--by any organization--have always been well-run and they've treated me extremely well. I did a workshop on backstory with new writer, Susan Schmid, and a talk on collaboration with my mother. Both went very well, and I met a lot of good writers and editors in the YA and Children's book fields. On Saturday night, we had a bunch of them up to our suite to watch the Red Sox beat up on the Rockies. A few of the editors were from New England, but worked in New York and were taking special joy in wearing their Red Sox hats and t-shirts during the game. Having grown up in Massachusetts, I enjoyed the Series quiiiiiiite a bit. | | No comments for this item |

Steward of Song is now scheduled for release in March of '08. I have received the advance proofs and am looking through them. Everything looks good. Also, UndeadTengu receives my award for "Best Rave Review That Contains a Threat of Violence." | | No comments for this item |
