Better Homes and Gardens
Monday, 04 June 2007
Never in a million years would I have guessed that I'd have something in Better Homes and Gardens, but it seems that on page 186 of the current issue, under "Living Section--Summer Fun", Troll Bridge is listed as a good summer read for teens.

Sleepy Update
Friday, 25 May 2007

Yes, it's been far too long since I've updated my site.  Almost a month, in fact.  I spent the last month getting tested for ADD  Or ADHD, I'm a little unclear which is which or if there's a difference.  Doesn't matter; I don't have it.  I do, however, have a bizarre assortment of other problems that present in an ADD-like way, leaving me with memory problems, attention issues, and a variety of other things. Kind of like ADD, but I can't take Ritalin or I'll fry my brain inside of 6 months.  Yeeha.  So, I'm in a holding pattern waiting for the written report to come--the doctor went over it with me, but of course I've forgotten half of what he said.  Anyway, it's 3:30 AM and I'm tired so I'll post more when I know more and am more capable of putting it in some semblance of order.  Meanwhile, I leave you this link I was directed to by the unsurpassed bloggers at Making Light

Joss Whedon with a brilliant and desperate rant about gender equality.

Minicon Report
Wednesday, 11 April 2007

Had an absolute blast at Minicon.  My panels were all fun and well-attended, the one I moderated getting completely out of hand (I forgot to take my meds that morning; what can I say?)  I got some good leads on research books for working on Duster from Theresa Nielsen-Hayden who we commandeered as moderator for the "What do Dwarves Eat?" panel.  Also signed a bunch of books with my mom, read from Troll Bridge and Steward of Song, and played a bunch of music at the Tor party.  Though small, Minicon was a real success for me this year.

Minicon Schedule
Monday, 02 April 2007

Here's my Minicon Schedule as it stands now:

FRIDAY

 Writing for the Young Adult

There has been a lot of interest recently in fantasy books for the
not-quite-adult reader. What books are your favorites? Are there still topics
that can't be broached? Are there any special challenges to writing for the
teenager?

Pamela Dean, Laura Krentz, Adam Stemple (m), Jane Yolen
Sat  11:30am-12:30pm
Atrium 7

SATURDAY

1:00-2:00 PM
    SIGNINGS: Jane Yolen, Adam Stemple
READINGS: Hilary Moon Murphy, Michael Merriam

2:30-3:30 PM
    SIGNINGS: Lyda Morehouse, Pamela Dean
READINGS: Jane Yolen (2:30-3:00), Adam Stemple (3:00-3:30)

SUNDAY

What Do Dwarves Eat?

When worldbuilding, it’s easy to forget practicalities and create an ecology
that could never work or an economy that doesn’t make sense. Are there any
books where these inaccuracies have ruined your reading experience? How can you
create an entire world without forgetting the little details?

Ruth Berman, Rachel Kronick (m), Kathy Sullivan, Adam Stemple, Jane Yolen
Sun  11:30am-12:30pm
Atrium 6

---

I'm also speaking on collaboration with my mother at the U on Thursday at 4:45, but I believe we're speaking to somebody's class.  Might be open to the public however, I really don't know.  Organized and knowledgeable, aren't I?
