Desayuno en Costa Rica

Desayuno en Costa Rica It is a pleasant isolation: sipping coffee I hope is decaffinated, surrounded by the chattering of a language I know only a little. Quiero tipico, huevos fritas, y decafe con leche gets me eggs, tortillas, gallo pinto, sour cream, and the coffee so bitter-sweet I suffer a crisis of my atheist faith. It costs four dollars American for this feast and three hundred to kill a man, last night's dinner companions telling me the dangers of two men on a motorcycle, faceplates black, idling on Avenida Central. But thoughts can't stay dark long in this place: the sun is too bright, the sky too clear. I sip my coffee and watch Volcan Poaz lying dormant on the horizon. Pura Vida!

Insurace CEO: Please fuck off now

Did I really just read an editorial in Newsweek by an insurance company CEO who is sick of getting blamed for the state of health care? Are you fucking kidding me? First of all, the complaint starts as his masseuse says isn't it too bad that insurance won't cover this? I'm sorry you can't enjoy your massage, you evil prick, but please fuck off now. You run a business which preys on the fears of people by selling them policies it never intends to pay. You refuse payment as a fucking business model, knowing that the longer you refuse to pay, the more money you make. You have bean counters making de facto medical decisions, when patients, doctors, specialists, etc. all disagree. I'm sorry people are unhappy with the fact that you won't cover stuff that might actually alleviate some pain, but I understand actually making good on your policies would hurt your precious bottom line. I hope socialized medicine finally comes to this country and your business goes into the shitter. But not before you contract a debilitating and painful disease, that your own insurance won't cover. Barring these happy occurences, I'm sure you'll be in the first group against the wall when the revolution comes.

OMG! New content!

Having experienced a jump in traffic here after working on my Mom's site, I've been forced to face how woefully out of date my site is. I've been neglecting it horribly while working on innumerable other projects. I have a giant redesign of the site planned, but I can't seem to find the time to do it. Coming first on the list of things of more importance then redesigning my personal site seem to be:Wife and kidsCollege (I'm majoring in graphic and web design at MCTC right now)BUG (novel with mom--currently a touch late) PokerXFactor workFixing my #$ *^#$ PC so I can do above PXF workJaneYolen.comascwpartnership.comSoccer (coaching 5/6 grade soccer at my kid's school It's super fun and we're undefeated!)Fall Poker ClassicAdd book trailer link on janeyolen.com Book trailers (go to janeyolen.com and click on Book Trailer link to see them as soon as I get the link up)...and a few other things I'm certain are falling through the cracks while I post this blog.

Libertarian Paradise

My usual line on Libertarianism is Freedom for Rich People! This video is a bit more nuanced. Also has best use of the word Socialist-ic-y-ish. http://almostdiamonds.blogspot.com/2009/05/libertarian-paradise.html (http://almostdiamonds.blogspot.com/2009/05/libertarian-paradise.html)
